Old Stapleton Airport

Stapleton Airport opened on October 17, 1929, named after Benjamin F. Stapleton, a long time Mayor of Denver.  As the City of Denver grew, it cut off any chance of Stapleton Airport from expanding.  The last flight was on February 27, 1995, by a Continental Airlines Flight 34, bound for London's Gatwick Airport.   Denver International Airport (DIA) opened the very next day.
